Mini Split Cleaning
for Every Brand of Ductless System
Your ductless mini split pulls room air across its coil and blower wheel all day, every day. Over time, dust, dirt and mold build up deep inside the unit, where a filter rinse can’t reach. The result is a musty smell, weaker airflow and a system that works harder than it should. Rocket Cooling cleans mini splits of every brand, and as a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Contractor, we know these systems inside and out.
Signs Your Mini Split Needs Cleaning
- A musty or sour smell when the unit turns on
- Dark spots or buildup on the vanes or blower wheel
- Weaker airflow than it used to have
- The unit runs longer to keep the room comfortable
- Water dripping from the indoor unit
Cleaning the filter yourself helps, but it doesn’t touch the coil or the blower wheel, which is where most of the buildup collects.
Protect Your Investment
Most homeowners keep up with maintenance on their central AC but forget about their mini splits. With replacement costs higher than ever, that’s a costly thing to overlook. A clean coil and blower wheel let your unit move air easily instead of straining against buildup, which helps it last longer. And the air blowing into your room comes through a clean unit, not one coated in dust and mold.
Basic Cleaning vs. Deep Cleaning
We offer two levels of cleaning, so you can choose what your system needs.
Basic Cleaning
- Remove and clean the filter, cover and screws
- Remove and clean the blower wheel
- Inspect the coil
- Reassemble the unit and test its operation
Deep Cleaning
- Everything in Basic Cleaning, plus:
- A full wash of the system using a protective wash bag and backpack sprayer
- Inspect and clean the evaporator coil with a specialized cleaning solution
- Pull and thoroughly clean the blower wheel
- Reassemble the unit and test its operation
Not sure which you need? Your technician will look at the unit and recommend the right level, with no pressure to upgrade.
How Our Deep Cleaning Works
For a deep cleaning, we don’t take your unit off the wall. Your technician fits a waterproof wash bag around the indoor unit to protect your walls and furniture. Then a portable backpack sprayer applies a specialized cleaning solution to the evaporator coil, blower wheel and other internal parts, washing away built-up dirt, dust, mold and other growth. The dirty water and solution drain from the bag through a hose into a bucket, so it’s all carried out of your home for proper disposal.
Mitsubishi Mini Split Cleaning
As a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Contractor, the highest tier of Mitsubishi Electric’s contractor program, we install and service Mitsubishi systems every day and know exactly how they come apart and go back together. We also clean Daikin, Fujitsu, LG, Carrier, Gree, Comfortstar and other ductless brands.
Keep It Clean After the Cleaning
A clean coil and blower wheel only stay that way if mold and bacteria can’t grow back. After a deep cleaning, we recommend a UV light or UV light strip matched to your unit, to help keep growth from returning between cleanings. It’s optional, but our customers who add a UV light after a cleaning have seen great results in keeping their units clean longer. For homes fighting odors from pets or cooking, we also offer air scrubbers for mini splits.
How Long Does It Take?
Most mini split cleanings take 2 to 4 hours, depending on the number of indoor units and the level of cleaning.
What Does Mini Split Cleaning Cost?
Pricing depends on the level of cleaning (Basic or Deep), how many indoor units your home has, and the condition of each unit. Homes with multiple indoor units get a discount. Your technician will go over the options and the exact price before any work starts.

Frequently Asked Questions: Mini Split Cleaning
How much does mini split cleaning cost?
It depends on whether you choose a Basic or Deep Cleaning, how many indoor units you have and their condition. Homes with more than one indoor unit get a multi-unit discount. Your technician confirms the exact price before starting.
What’s the difference between a basic and a deep cleaning?
A Basic Cleaning cleans the filter, cover and blower wheel and includes a coil inspection. A Deep Cleaning adds a full wash of the coil and internal parts with a specialized cleaning solution, using a wash bag that protects your walls and floors.
How long does a mini split cleaning take?
Most cleanings take 2 to 4 hours, depending on how many units you have and which cleaning you choose.
Do you have to take the unit off the wall?
No. We clean wall-mounted units in place, using a waterproof wash bag that catches the water and cleaning solution.
Do you clean brands other than Mitsubishi?
Yes. We’re a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Contractor, and we clean all brands of ductless mini splits.
Will a cleaning get rid of the musty smell?
In most cases, yes. The smell usually comes from buildup on the coil and blower wheel, which a deep cleaning removes. If you have pets, burn a lot of candles or cook often, ask about indoor air quality options for your unit, like an air scrubber or UV light, to help keep odors from coming back.
