Blown-In Attic Insulation
in Florida
On a summer afternoon, a Florida attic can get far hotter than the air outside, and that heat pushes straight down through your ceiling. Your AC has to fight it all day. The right amount of attic insulation stops most of that heat where it starts, so your home stays cooler and your AC doesn’t have to work as hard. Rocket Cooling installs Owens Corning® AttiCat® blown-in attic insulation across Southwest Florida, the Treasure Coast and the Florida Keys. Every installer on our team is factory trained by Owens Corning.
Why Attic Insulation Matters in Florida
In Florida, attic insulation is about keeping heat out, not in. When an attic is under-insulated, heat radiates down into your living space and your AC runs longer to keep up. That shows up as:
- Higher electric bills, especially in summer
- An AC that seems to run constantly
- Rooms under the attic that never feel as cool as the rest of the house
- Extra wear on your AC system from long run times
Adding insulation to the attic is one of the simplest ways to take load off your AC, and it keeps working year after year.
What Is Blown-In Insulation?
Blown-in insulation is loose-fill insulation that’s blown into your attic through a hose and settles into an even blanket across the attic floor. Because it’s loose, it fills in around ceiling joists, wiring, pipes and odd-shaped spaces where rolled batts leave gaps. That full, even coverage is what makes it so effective.
In most homes, there’s no need to tear out the insulation you already have. New blown-in insulation goes right on top of it to bring your attic up to the recommended level, which keeps the job clean and quick.
Owens Corning AttiCat, Installed by Factory-Trained Technicians
We install the Owens Corning AttiCat Expanding Blown-In Insulation System, blown to a total of R-30. That’s the level ENERGY STAR recommends for attics in South Florida’s climate zone. Every Rocket Cooling installer has completed factory training with Owens Corning, so your insulation is installed to the manufacturer’s specifications for full coverage and rated performance.
The Best Insulation for a Florida Attic
The number that matters most is the R-value: how well insulation resists heat. The higher the R-value, the more heat it keeps out of your home.
- South Florida (Fort Myers, Naples, the Florida Keys): we blow to R-30, the level ENERGY STAR recommends for this climate zone.
- The Treasure Coast (St. Lucie and Martin counties): these counties fall in a cooler climate zone, so we blow to R-38, the level Florida’s building code requires for new homes there.
For most Florida attics, blown-in fiberglass is the best fit. It covers the whole attic floor evenly, it can go on top of existing insulation, and it reaches the right R-value without major work in your attic.
Signs Your Attic Needs More Insulation
- Your energy bills keep climbing
- Your AC runs almost nonstop on hot days
- Some rooms are noticeably warmer than others
- You can see the tops of the ceiling joists in your attic, which means the insulation is too thin
- The insulation looks flattened, uneven or patchy
Not sure? We’ll check your attic during a free in-home estimate and tell you honestly whether it needs more.
How the Installation Works
Step-by-step installation details are coming soon.
Most attics are done in 2 to 6 hours, depending on size.
An HVAC Company That Insulates
Most insulation companies only see your attic. As an HVAC company, we look at your attic and your AC together. A properly insulated attic means your system runs less, so you get more comfort and more life out of the equipment you already have.
What Does Attic Insulation Cost?
Every attic is different, so we don’t quote a one-size-fits-all price. Your cost depends mainly on:
- The square footage of the attic being insulated
- How much insulation is already there
- How easy the attic is to get into and work in
We’ll measure your attic and give you an exact price at a free in-home estimate, with no obligation.

Frequently Asked Questions: Attic Insulation in Florida
How much does attic insulation cost?
It depends mainly on the square footage of your attic, how much insulation is already there and how easy the attic is to access. We’ll measure and give you an exact price at a free in-home estimate.
What R-value do I need in Florida?
In South Florida, including Fort Myers, Naples and the Keys, ENERGY STAR recommends R-30 for attics. On the Treasure Coast (St. Lucie and Martin counties), Florida’s building code calls for R-38 in new homes, so we blow to R-38 there.
How long does it take to install blown-in insulation?
Most attics are done in 2 to 6 hours, depending on size. In most cases, the whole job is finished the same day.
Will attic insulation lower my AC bill?
It reduces how much heat comes through your ceiling, so your AC doesn’t have to run as long to keep your home cool. Less run time means lower energy use.
Is blown-in insulation better than batts?
For most Florida attics, yes. Blown-in insulation fills in around joists, wiring and pipes, where batts leave gaps, and it can go right on top of the insulation you already have.
Do I need to remove my old insulation?
In most homes, no. New blown-in insulation goes on top of your existing insulation to bring the attic up to the recommended level.
Is the estimate free?
Yes. We offer free in-home estimates. Book online or give us a call.
